YouTube Symphony Orchestra live at Carnegie Hall
DW World, english program, 20.04.2009
A classical orchestra, acting globally and with members from all around the world is nothing special these days. But if it is founded and has been rehearsing on the internet, it is worth a closer look.
The internet video platform YouTube has called for entries for the YouTube Symphony orchestra since December, the first virtual online orchestra in the world. The auditions were online, by submitted videos, showing the applicants performing with their instruments at home, at school, anywhere. Everybody could apply – and so did over 3000 musicians from 70 countrie around the world. 95 of the best were invited for a workshop to New York last week, not virtually, but in real life, with a final concert at Carnegie-Hall.
Julia Kaiser has listened to the workshops and the first and maybe final concert of the first online orchestra in the world.
